Physio-Control Internship

Designed, built and tested a working electro-mechanical prototype

Design problem: How can we design this medical device such that users are able to hear and deactivate it when needed? This was particularly important since if the user could not successfully deactivate it, then it would put their safety at risk. Please pardon the ambiguity, this project is under NDA (anything presented here was pre-approved).

My role: Designed and built a working prototype in order to test in which location the users can more effectively hear and deactivate the device. Many factors were taken into consideration, such as the user's position, room noise level, and level of distraction. I also designed and ran the evaluation, with the support of a Human Factors engineer and Interaction Designer, and then presented the results to the team.

Result: It was determined that of two locations we considered, there was no clear winner and the reality may be that it is something each user should be able to choose based on their specific abilities and needs.
